Finca "El Abra"

Isla de la Juventud

The nice former farm 2 km southwest of Nueva Gerona is related with the Cuban national hero José Martí.
José Sardá, the former catalonian owner of the farm, got to know the fate of Martí, who has been in prison and very ill at the age of 17 years. He decided to take him to the farm for recreation. There he nursed him up to 1870, when Martí was sent into spanisch exile.

Today at El Abra there lives a family in some of the rooms. In the main part there is a museum where you can find historical furniture and documents about Martís history on the island.
