Trips in Nature at Isla de la Juventud One of the most
interesting destinations is to climb on one of the rainforest covered marble
hills besides Gerona At the beginning of the way you will see an entrance to a cave. Its interesting to go downstairs, there will wait you an underground river with warm water. But be carefull, carry a strong light and if possible a person who knows the cave and think about the stairs will end at about 100 meters inside ! At the mountains
"Sierra del Casa" southwest of Nueva Gerona you´ll find
another three interesting caves, Cueva el Agua, Cueva El Indio and
Cueva del Hondón. It´s worth a visit because of the nice stalagmites
und stalagtites and some prehistorical indian paintures at the walls. South of Nueva Gerona you will pass some kilometers through forests and fruit plantations and come to a valley with romantic little rivers inside the forests, that end in nice lakes. where you can have a piknic. The bay "Bahía
de Siguanea" not only offers phantastic views under
water, but also much adventures for nature lovers. There is an very
sensitiv ecosystem with palm- and pineforests, bush- and marshland and
protects more than 60 endemic plants and 152 types of birds like
parrots. |
