A walk through Nueva Gerona

Isla de la Juventud

Start your walk at Calle 39, where you find restaurants, shops and attractive buildings in colonial style. The zone of interest begins at the park Parque Guerillero Heroico (between the streets 28 und 30), there is also the museum of history. At the end of the park you´ll see the nice church Nuestra Señora de los Dolores.

500 m south at Calle 41 you come to the academy of science, where you find a museum of islands nature. Here you can inform you about the endemic flora and fauna as well as about homan evolution history.
Besides the museum there is the planetary that offers star and sky observation with telescops.

At the harbor between the streets 26 und 28, you can visit the ship "El Pinero", that braught Fidel Castro and his comrades from the island after they were in prison. In front of it there is a shop with much import articles, like bikes, clothes and electrical appliances.
At the place in fromt of it you´ll see the marble statua of Ubre Blanca, a cow (!) from the city that occupates the world record in milk production..
If you travel with children you should visit after that the childrens amusement park Parque de Diversiones at Calle 28 corner to 37.

The local art gallery Centro de Desarollo de Artes Visuales at Calle 39 offers varying expositions of young Cuban and international painters.

And dont forget to enjoy the view on the fishermens harbor and the splendid wood maded houses and pavillons around the bridge.
