Best beaches of

Isla de la Juventud

The best beaches around Nueva Gerona you can reach easy by bus (0,50 Pesos), bike, horse coach or taxi (2-3 $ to Bibijagua).

Playa Paraiso is the nearst beach where mostly go Cubans on weekends. It hat white sand, palms, clear water and a nice view on the marble moutains.

The best beach is Playa Bibijagua 3 km east of Paraiso. You have white sand and black marble sand districts. You´ll have a good view to the mountains and much palms giving you a shadow place. The water of aquamarin color is absolutely clear. First 200 m the beach is shallow so it´s also a very good and safe place for children. If you go more far into the water you should bring a little equipement for snorkeling, you will see a real underwater world of fishes, octopus and seeplants in a depth about 1-2 meters.


Besides the beach there is a bar and a little camping where you can rent a hut to stay over weekends.
Surely after staying some hours at the beach you will be hungry: then we recomment you to use the little private resaurant in the garden of the only house there. The owner is a real master cook. Best deal is to tell him your wishes when you arrive at the beach and at evening he will present you a grat meal of fish and all type of seafood. By the way, his best speciality is fried crocodil.
Remember that the last bus to Nueva Gerona will leave the beach at 7 p.m.

Bahía de Siguanea
In western part of the island takes place Hotel Colony with the dive center and also a great white sand and palm beach, what is very shallow and warm, at 300 m you´ll be in a depth of about 1,5 meters. Also here don´t forget your snorkeling equipement! Bars, restaurants, rental of ballgames and boats of the hotel can be used even if you are not a guest there.
From Gerona you can get there with a taxi driver or much cheaper with the bus, that leaves Gerona at Pinero at 7.30 a.m. and from the hotel to Gerona at 5 p.m.

From the dive center besides Colony every day at 9.30 a.m. there goes a ship to Punta Francés to carry divers to their diving areas. At Punta Frances there is also a good beach with a restaurant 200 m inside the water. But if you don´t want to dive one day there might be enough and in the evening you should bring something to protect you from the mosquitos.

South Coast

The most lonely beaches you will find around the southern area belong the coast road. Don´t forget to stay there some hours if you drive there to visit the indian cave "Cueva Punta del Este".
